About Coach Ben
Former professional player. 15+ years coaching youth baseball in Colorado.
My Story
Hi, I'm Ben Katz-Moses.
I'm a former professional baseball player with over 15 years of experience coaching youth baseball in Colorado. I played college baseball at Claremont McKenna College, then played professionally in the Israel Baseball League — in the league's one and only season, I led it in HBP (hit by pitch). Not exactly the stat I was going for, but I'll take a claim to fame where I can get one.
After my playing days, I started out coaching at the high school level. It didn't take long to realize that the most joy I find in this game comes from working with younger kids — bringing joy to the field and cultivating a sandbox for kids to learn life lessons, not just baseball skills.
I also have two kids of my own, which has only deepened how I think about coaching young players.
Today, I run Katz-Moses Baseball, offering summer camps, small-group clinics, private and semi-private lessons, and coach trainings for organizations and individual coaches looking to improve their practices and player development.
My Coaching Philosophy
My coaching philosophy comes from three places: years of teaching math, years of coaching baseball, and being a parent myself.
I'm a Double-Goal Coach — a concept created by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), where the first goal is striving to win, and the second, more important goal is teaching life lessons through sports.
Too often, kids don't get to play baseball in a positive environment:
- Coaches are frequently untrained
- Kids from low-income communities are only half as likely to participate in youth sports in the first place
- Coaches, parents, and administrators often don't know how to create a positive environment, even when they want to
I coach because I want to help as many kids — and adults — as I can experience the power of positive coaching.
